Showrunner Camp – Program

Program – What do I get to do?

The Showrunner Camp is a one-week immersion program in television production.  Crew members learn the skills needed to broadcast a live two-hour music concert, recorded in front of a studio audience.  During the five day camp, the crew receive instruction from industry professionals and practice those skills is a working studio (making a live, public broadcast each day). Crew members become their own production company which, by week’s end, self-sufficiently produces (with on-screen credit) an episode of Juneau Live! Studio’s most popular series (10,000+ views), Alaska Music One Presents with at least four major, local bands, in front of a studio audience.

Crew members also practice skills learned in the studio by performing various tasks during the week and producing daily 4:00 pm live broadcasts.  As the week progresses, all crew members will fill the production company roles necessary to produce the Friday broadcast.  Depending on enrollment, crew members may be assigned to groups of five to six, balanced by ages and experience / interest, and will be assigned an advisor from the resident faculty and staff and will be assigned craft service and catering for a day during the week and one of the daily 3:30 pm live broadcasts.

NEW!  Studio Apprentice 1/2 Day Camp for elementary school students.

Participants (“interns”) learn the skills needed to broadcast a live show talk-show, recorded in front of a studio audience. During the five day camp (9 am to 1 pm), the interns receive instruction from industry professionals and practice those skills is a working studio (making a live, public broadcast each day). the interns become part of the Showrunner Camp production company.  By week’s end, the interns produce (with on-screen credit) , with assistance of the Sh0wruner Camp crew, an episode of one of Juneau Live! Studio’s popular series (10,000+ views), in front of a studio audience. Click here for more information and registration.

Showrunner Camp Daily Broadcasts

These daily br0adcasts serve a number of goals:

  • opportunity to practice skills being learned in camp
  • learning to work in a team setting
  • preparing for a live broadcast
  • going live on the studio’s announced schedule (3:30 each day of camp) to the public
  • working in front of a studio audience (at least other groups, but could be anyone who shows up, if broadcasting from studio) or public (if broadcasting from outside studio)

Crew members from other groups may act as talent for other groups’ broadcasts.  Check out the latest broadcast:

Production Company Roles

As the week progresses, all crew members will fill the roles of their production company necessary to produce the Friday broadcast. Because the camp limits its focus to the skills and roles of a television production producing a regular live concert show, not all roles typically found in television production are needed.  Additionally, because the roles are interdependent, crew members are expected to attend the entire program.
