Mr. Xia directs a multitude of string quartets and ensemble groups during his spare time under the non-profit organization Juneau String Ensembles. They ensembles are made up of three groups: Aurora Strings, Ursa Minor, and Ursa Major which has spanned 3 generations of violinists. A sampling of their repertoire include Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings in C major No. 48, Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances, and the Hayden Symphony #73. The groups have also been known to perform more playful and contemporary pieces such as renditions of musical themes from the Harry Potter series and old-timey fiddle tunes.
Smaller ensemble groups such as a string quartet, trios and duos are available on request. These ensemble groups meet and practice one month before events such as musical competitions and parties. Community members have also participated in ensemble performances and a variety of arrangements can be assembled to cater party interests.
