Companion Animal Policy

Companion Animal Policy
Welcoming All God’s Creatures with Respect, Dignity, and Care

At Resurrection Lutheran Church (RLC), we are committed to promoting spiritual growth in Christ and serving all people. In keeping with this mission and our Guest Service Guidelines, we recognize the valuable companionship and emotional support that companion animals (including service animals and pets) provide—especially for individuals experiencing homelessness or mental wellness challenges. This policy outlines how we welcome companion animals while ensuring a respectful, safe, and dignified environment for everyone.

Philosophy and Purpose
Our Companion Animal Policy reflects our core values of inclusion, hospitality, and service. Companion animals are part of the lives of many of our guests, and welcoming them honors our commitment to meet physical, mental, and spiritual needs through RLC’s programs, including:
• RLC Food Pantry and Food Services
• RLC Shelter Services
• Juneau Live! Studio
• Worship services and other ministries
Pet-Friendly Areas
Companion animals are welcome in all public, front-facing areas of our community service spaces, including:
• The food line and meal service areas
• Fellowship and gathering spaces
• Shelter intake and common areas
Back-of-house areas, food preparation zones, and restricted sections remain off-limits to companion animals, except for certified service animals as required by law.
Guest Responsibilities
To ensure a safe and hospitable environment, we ask pet owners to:
• Maintain control: Companion animals must be leashed, crated, or otherwise under direct control at all times.
• Clean up after companion animals: Owners are responsible for immediate cleanup of any waste.
• Respect others’ comfort and safety: Companion animals must be non-aggressive and not disruptive. Excessive barking or threatening behavior may result in removal for the safety of all.
• Follow staff directions: Volunteers and staff may provide guidance to ensure compliance with this policy.
Service and Support Animals
We comply fully with all applicable laws regarding service animals and will accommodate guests with emotional support animals in a respectful and nonjudgmental manner.

Our Commitment to Guest Service
In accordance with our Guest Service Guidelines inspired by our Guest Service Guidelines, we strive to:
• Treat all guests—two- and four-legged—with dignity and courtesy
• Engage with warmth and compassion
• Resolve concerns promptly and gracefully
• Ensure every guest feels welcome, valued, and respected
Spiritual Support for All
We affirm the spiritual bond between people and their animals. As part of our ministry, we are open to offering blessings for animals and welcome prayer requests related to the well-being of companion animals and their owners.
