Juneau Alaska's Evangelical Lutheran Church of America downtown community dedicated to the Spiritual growth in Christ and service to all people.
This month we recognize worship and music. That means the Worship and Music Committee and all who provide music.
In this report:
Celebration Ringers have room for more ringers! Only one requirement —must be able to read music!
Adapted from the Members Only Newsletter
The Worship and Music Committee is responsible for assisting the council in assuring that our worship services are conducted in accordance with the liturgy of the ELCA. It assists in the recruitment and training of worship assistants and readers, and in recruiting substitutes for our paid staff when necessary. They address issues that might be raised by or about RLC musicians and are involved in any changes to the care of paraments, vestments, and musical instruments.
The committee selects hymns (the pastor or other who is bringing the message for a service selects the sermon hymn); recommends which liturgical settings to use for regular worship and mid-week Lenten and Advent services; coordinates with Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church for joint worship services; and coordinates on scheduling special music during our worship services and for ministry outside our building.
The Celebration Ringers play for worship and perform at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and other off premise locations. Thankfully, the choir members value this ministry of music and willingly roll their sleeves up to take the music “on the road.”
The Worship and Music Committee and Celebration Ringers are always recruiting new members. If you are interested, talk to Lucy Merrell, our organist, Celebration Ringers director, and active member of the committee.
As you encounter any of these Worship and Music Church Gnomes, give them words of thanks for the job they do for all of us.
