I once was a mighty hardwood, growing straight and tall; a magnificent part of God's forest, created for you all.
One day I felt great pain, deep within my core; and to the ground I fell, now changed forever more.
Hauled away was I, to be made something new; although just exactly what, I did not have a clue.
Discarded from some vision, I was carelessly sent astray; rejected, alone and worthless, I seemed to have lost my way.
Becoming a piece of driftwood, awash on the stormy sea; a journey without purpose, became my destiny.
Then a beachcomber found me, washed in upon the shore; after my long, hard journey, to be found and lost no more.
For my discoverer believed, that beauty within me lay; even though my countenance, was worn and weathered grey.
In a carpenter's workshop, my sheath was planed apart; revealing what lay within, a noble mahogany heart.
Altar Care: Anyone can do it! Just ask the people who are doing it on Sunday morning and they will help with hints and tips and get you all ready to go!
y beauty once again shone forth, within my clear, straight grain;a "calling" of my purpose, was made wonderfully plain.
While drying in the workshop though,a part of me did check;those years at sea had left their mark,a part of me was wrecked.
Not to be dissuaded, the vision remained true;the carpenter made me whole again, with clamps and a little glue.
Now ready for the final stage,of my journey to this place;I was taken to a woodcarver,to inscribe words of grace.
For the vision was for me to bear,Jesus' message on a board;that we should all remember Him,at the Table of our Lord.
I now complete the communion rail,as His Sacrament nourishes thee;proclaiming His invitation to,"Do This In Remembrance of Me."
As I caringly support you,in a hallowed, holy place;be comforted that you are given,an abundance of His grace.
Thus as you hear my story, may it remind you of your own;for all are God's creations, with purposes divinely sown.
